Junior Sourdough Camp: An Adult & Me Adventure (Afternoon Session)

"Sourdough is more than just delicious bread—it is a living, breathing science experiment that families have shared for generations. Introduce your young baker to the magic of wild yeast and healthy fermentation in a hands-on workshop designed to inspire curiosity and healthy eating from the inside out."

Are you looking for a fun, creative, and educational daytime activity to share with your child or grandchild this summer? Join us at Nancy's Urban Tower Farm for our Junior Sourdough Bakers Camp! This interactive, hands-on workshop is specifically designed for children aged 5 to 12 and their accompanying adult partners. Together, you will explore the fascinating world of sourdough baking, microbiology, and gut health in a warm, welcoming farm environment.

During this two-hour camp-style workshop, you and your junior baker will get your hands in the dough as we walk through the step-by-step process of mixing, feeding, and nurturing sourdough. We will demystify the science of wild fermentation, explaining how beneficial bacteria work their magic to make bread rise and keep our tummies happy. To make the day even more memorable, we will take a mini-adventure through our state-of-the-art aeroponic Tower Gardens, where children can see and taste fresh, clean greens grown right here at the farm.

What You and Your Junior Baker Will Take Home:

  • Your Own Sourdough Loaf: A freshly mixed loaf of sourdough bread, prepped in class and ready to go home to rise and bake in your own oven.

  • Living Sourdough Starter: A jar of active, bubbly sourdough starter to feed and keep alive for endless future baking adventures at home.

  • Junior Baker's Guide: A kid-friendly recipe booklet with simple instructions, feeding schedules, and fun "sourdough science" facts.

  • Family Gut Health Tips: Practical, family-friendly wellness insights inspired by JuicePlus to support vibrant health and digestion.

What to Bring to Class:

To ensure a fully hands-on experience, each parent-child pair is asked to bring the following baking supplies from home:

  1. One large mixing bowl.

  2. One large mixing spoon or a Danish Dough Whisk.

  3. Four cups of All-Purpose or Bread Flour.

  4. One wide-mouth mason jar (to take home your new sourdough starter).

  5. Two aprons (optional, but highly recommended for messy fun!).

Registration Fee: $40 per Parent & Child Duo (covers admission and materials for one child and one adult). Space is strictly limited to ten duos per session to ensure personalized instruction.
